Tea Set Storage

I found an adorable little tea set at a brocante here in France.  The set is made in Italy, and it is nothing too fancy, but it does have Marie Antoinette and King Louis on each of the 12 cups and saucers, creamer and tea pot.

I got a great deal on the set, and only one little plate has a chip.  I was so excited to bring it home.

And then I realized it has 12 cups and saucers, this takes up a lot of room.  Where am I going to store this?  I didn't want to pack it away when not is use, because I knew it would never get used that way.

The set sat on my counter for almost a week, and then I went to Pinterest.  I typed in 'tea set storage' and up came an image.  It was originally shared here:

I saw the bird cage with the hooks and my mind immediately went to a bird cage light fixture I had picked up from Emmaus.  The bird cage was sitting on top of a corner cabinet at that moment.  I went and pulled down the bird cage thinking there was no way there would be enough hooks for all of the cups.  Sure enough there were exactly enough hooks and space for all of the cups.

Then came the saucers and tea pot.  They fit beautifully inside.  The last piece was the creamer and with a little hook that used to hand the bird cage the creamer from hanging from inside the top.

I called my husband in to ooh and ahh over my idea.  I know it wasn't original, but what were the chances of having the exact right piece for the job?  I guess when you bring home as many treasures as I do the pieces are bound to start fitting together.

  2. Wow! What a perfect solution to your storage problem. I can't believe that a piece you already had would have the exact number of hooks and space needed! And you get to display your treasure as well. Quite a win-win! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

    1. Thanks! I was afraid the tea set was going to have to go in a box and that made me sad. Now I get to enjoy it every day and it might actually get used.
